A spreadsheet

What it does better

It is free, it is yours, and it bends to anything. You can add a column the moment you think of it, and nobody can change the price or shut it down. For the first thirty trades it is a perfectly good journal, and we say so in our own guide.

What's different in LogBook

A spreadsheet has no place for a chart screenshot, no calendar unless you build one, and no phone-friendly form for logging between two trades. The habit tends to die there. LogBook keeps the data yours (export to CSV any time) and adds the parts a spreadsheet makes you build.

Tradervue

What it does better

A real free tier, up to 30 trades a month, which is enough to find out whether you'll keep a journal at all. Imports from more than 80 trading platforms, so a day of fifty trades lands in the journal without typing, with charts drawn from the fills. It has been around for many years and is widely used.

What's different in LogBook

LogBook has no import at all: you log each trade yourself, which takes about twenty seconds and is the moment you actually think about the trade. The whole journal is free, not a tier of it. Amounts are in kronor, days run on Stockholm time, and Avanza traders can scan a screenshot instead of typing.

Price: Free up to 30 trades a month, then Silver 29.95 USD/month or Gold 49.95 USD/month. No yearly price shown.Checked 2026-10-31 · Tradervue's pricing page

TradeZella

What it does better

Backtesting against historical data and a tick-by-tick replay of any trade you took, which nothing else in this table offers. Trades flow in from more than 500 brokers. If you want to test a setup before risking money on it, this is the tool built for that.

What's different in LogBook

LogBook does none of that, on purpose: no backtesting, no replay, no AI partner. It is a journal for the trades you take, with a calendar and breakdowns, and it is free. If backtesting is what you need, TradeZella is the better choice and we would rather you knew that now.

Price: Essential 35 USD/month, or 26 USD/month billed yearly (315 USD/year). Pro 59/44, Ultra 99/74 USD/month. No free tier.Checked 2026-10-31 · TradeZella's pricing page

Edgewonk

What it does better

The deepest work on trading psychology of the three: a psychology lab, mistake tracking, trade checklists and a diary that are built to catch rule breaks and emotional trades. A single yearly price instead of tiers, and a 14-day refund. Screenshots can be attached, including from a TradingView link.

What's different in LogBook

LogBook covers the same ground more lightly: a grade per trade, mistake tags, a morning plan and an evening review with four questions. If you want to go deep on your own psychology, Edgewonk has more. If you want to spend two minutes a day on it, LogBook is enough, and it costs nothing.

Price: 197 USD per 12 months, or 35 USD per month, excluding VAT (added at checkout for EU customers). No free tier. 14-day refund.Checked 2026-10-31 · Edgewonk's pricing page

None of these tools is a bad choice. They cost money because broker sync, backtesting and replay cost money to build and run. LogBook leaves those out, which is why it can be free, and why it fits a trader who wants a journal and not a platform.
